This talk continues the 'DRAF Broadcasts: Podcast' series in which artists from the David Roberts Collection choose a work for discussion. For this edition of the podcast, Jonathan Baldock selects 'Nana Danseuse', a sculpture made around 1972 by French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle, an artist he has long loved and admired.
'Towner International' is a new biennial exhibition of contemporary art that takes place for the first time at Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne from 6 October 2020 to 11 April 2021. The Brewers Award of £10,000, sponsored by Brewers Decorator Centres, will be awarded to one of the exhibiting artists along with mentoring from the Towner team.
For his first exhibition in Norway, Jonathan Baldock presents a new body of works. In an essay commissioned specially for the show Chris Bayley (Curatorial Assistant, Barbican Art Gallery, London) writes, "Baldock’s immersive exhibition encourages the viewer to enter a psychological world that revels in the performative properties of sculpture and is imbued with a magical, ritualistic power. It seduces and repels in equal measure."
We are delighted that Arts Council Collection has acquired works from Jonathan Baldock's 'Maske' series. These wall-based ceramics are amongst the 38 works by 21 artists recently acquired by the Collection with the aim of supporting and promoting British artists at a critical stage in their career.
On Wednesday 24 June from 10am, Jonathan Baldock took part in a seven hour Slow TV marathon streamed on Kunsthall Stavanger’s website. The live stream showed Baldock working on new large-scale textile works for his solo exhibition ‘Me, Myself and I’ at Kunsthall Stavanger (10 September–8 November 2020).
The 'Tuesday Talks' series presents leading artists, thinkers and curators who explore the driving forces, influences and sources of inspiration within contemporary art. The series is a collaboration between The Whitworth and Manchester Metropolitan University and is programmed by Pavel Büchler.
