Join Clare Lilley (Curator, Yorkshire Sculpture Park) in conversation with British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, as they delve into his landmark exhibition, 'FABRIC-ATION' (2013).

'Diversity United' is a major cross-border exhibition which travels from Tempelhof Airport, Berlin, Germany to New Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, Russia and Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France. The show brings together works by 90 contemporary artists to reveal the vitality and diversity of European art after the fall of the Iron Curtain whilst underlining the importance of intercultural dialogue in times of political uncertainty.

We were delighted to host a virtual talk on the occasion of Yinka Shonibare CBE's and Leilah Babirye's solo exhibitions at Stephen Friedman Gallery this summer. Chaired by Alexandria Smith (Head of Painting, Royal College of Art, London), the event looked at how these exhibitions investigate and disrupt notions of African identity.

'Unnatural History' is a major group exhibition which explores natural history and climate change, curated by Invisible Dust as part of Coventry 2021 City of Culture. The presentation explores the role of the artist as an intrinsic part of the science of natural history, enabling our modern understanding of ecology, climate change, extinction and the threats to biodiversity.

Presented by The Arts Club and Wedel Art, ‘Disrupting the Canon’ brings together ground-breaking contemporary works that challenge conceptions of ‘high art’. Reclaiming visual languages that have typically been associated with craft, domestic, vernacular, 'ethnic' and ‘feminine’ work, the show features works by Jonathan Baldock, Holly Hendry and Yinka Shonibare CBE amongst others.

We are delighted to announce that Yinka Shonibare CBE RA (b. 1962, UK) is the eighth artist to receive the prestigious annual Art Icon award, generously supported by the Swarovski Foundation. On Monday 22 March 2021, the award will be presented during a virtual gala celebration hosted by Iwona Blazwick OBE (Director, Whitechapel Gallery), and feature an exclusive performance from Angélique Kidjo.

Yinka Shonibare CBE and five other leading British artists have each made a new limited-edition print that will be distributed in UK schools to inspire children and support the teaching of Black histories. 

As part of South South Veza’s ongoing series ‘In Dialogue: Collector Talks’ Yinka Shonibare CBE RA will join Pulane Kingston (South South Ambassador, South Africa), Tio Stephen Kauma (South South Ambassador, Uganda) and Jim Amberson (South South Ambassador, Singapore) for a virtual conversation to explore topics related to the arts ecology of the Global South. The event will be moderated by Daudi Karungi (Director, Afriart Gallery, Uganda).

Yinka Shonibare Foundation and Guest Projects Digital present ‘A Fabricator’s Tale’. This project showcases the individual practices of ten artists who work collectively as the fabricators behind the classical figures and sewn quilts of Yinka Shonibare CBE. Works included are varied and strikingly disparate, underpinned by the artist’s shared experience as artistic practitioners.

During this time of national lockdown in the UK, Guest Projects Digital will present its first online Film Festival exploring issues of migration, mobility and global crisis. The festival will show established and emerging artists who use film as a significant part of their work. 

As part of SOAS's ongoing series of Artist Talks, Yinka Shonibare CBE will be joined in conversation by Dr. Gus Casely-Hayford (Director, V&A East) on Monday 25 January, 5–7pm. The event will be chaired by Dr. Polly Savage (SOAS School of Arts). 

'Material (SG) II', by Yinka Shonibare CBE, which forms part of the artist’s 'Wind Sculpture' series, will be unveiled in 2021 at the outdoor plaza at the new office building, 360 Rosemary. The sculpture was commissioned in collaboration with Related Companies, The West Palm Beach Art in Public Places (AiPP) Program and city of West Palm Beach.

Yinka Shonibare CBE and fifteen other leading UK-based artists have each made a new limited edition print which they have generously contributed to 'The Help Portfolio', 2020. All profits from the sale of this boxed collection of prints will be donated to sixteen charities selected by the artists involved. 

House of Vans London and The Auction Collective present a virtual 360° exhibition, followed by a live-stream fundraising auction to raise funds for leading homelessness charity: Centrepoint.

Yinka Shonibare CBE has been awarded the Robson Orr TenTen Award 2020 by the Government Art Collection (GAC). The new work was unveiled at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office on Tuesday 6 October 2020 by Caroline Dinenage MP, Minister of State (Minister for Digital and Culture) and Penny Johnson CBE, Director of the GAC.

For the first time in its history, the Royal Academy of Arts' Summer Exhibition falls in winter this year. Coordinated by artistic duo Jane and Louise Wilson RA. (This link opens in a new tab)., the exhibition features myriad household names including Tracey Emin, Denzil Forrester, Rebecca Horn, Anselm Kiefer, Julian Schnabel, Yinka Shonibare CBE, Gillian Wearing and Ai Weiwei as well as many emerging artists. 

M WOODS presents two film works by British-born Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare CBE in the museum's Temple Galleries in Beijing, China. Shonibare's films 'Odile and Odette' and 'Addio del Passato' are shown within specially reconstructed Ming dynasty temples.
