'Subversive Tenderness' is an exploration of ideas of softness in nature and culture. It positions itself as the contemporary alternative to the modernist avant-garde, a tender reimagining of today's reality. 

Over the course of his nearly 50-year career, Melvin Edwards has explored materiality to confront social injustice. The title of this exhibition, ‘Wire(d) and Chain(ed)’, alludes to two of the artist's signature industrial media. Tracing the breadth of the artist’s life and work, the solo presentation showcases Edwards’ ability to formulate his distinct visual language in both two and three dimensions.

Inspired by feminism and the politics of sexual liberation, Caroline Coon’s unique paintings contest binary notions of gender and oppressive patriarchal values. Her works cover a variety of subjects including sex workers, beachgoers, intersex people, still lifes, football players and urban landscapes. All are united by Coon’s unwavering rebellion against the status quo. 

The Katherine E. Nash Gallery presents 'A Picture Gallery of the Soul', a group exhibition of over 100 Black American artists whose practice incorporates photography.  Featuring a range of photographic expressions from traditional photography to mixed media and conceptual art, the exhibition honours, celebrates, investigates, and interprets Black history, culture, and politics in the United States.

'Home is where the art is' explores the concept of art collection; from how works are brought together to how they interact with their surroundings, and in turn what this can communicate about the collector and the viewer.

'Breathe into the Past: Crosscurrents in the Caribbean' takes its title from a line in Alexis Pauline Gumbs’ 2020 book 'Dub: Finding Ceremony', which concerns channeling ancestral knowledge toward understanding Caribbean histories and navigating Caribbean futures. 

Focusing on the work of African American potters in the 19th-century American South—in dialogue with contemporary artistic responses—the exhibition presents approximately 50 ceramic objects from Old Edgefield District, South Carolina, a centre of stoneware production in the decades before the Civil War.

Nationalmuseum present a seminar on Yinka Shonibare CBE RA and his art, global trade, art collections and museum history. The seminar is arranged by Prinsessan Estelles stiftelse with lectures and panel discussions with representatives from the Ethnographic Museum, Stockholm School of Economics, Moderna Museet and Magasin III Museum for Contemporary Art.

The first major exhibition of Hungarian abstract art in Korea, ‘Folded – Unfolded’ presents abstract painting by Hungarian artists from the 1960s and the 1970s. Taking place alongside Frieze Seoul 2022 and Kiaf (Korean International Art Fair) Seoul 2022, the group exhibition draws upon the recently established collection of the Central Bank of Hungary and represents a broad range of techniques and materials.

Reborn Art Festival is an arts and culture festival inaugurated during the summer of 2017 in one of the regions hardest hit by the triple disaster that devastated the northeastern coastline of Japan in 2011. Breaking the museum’s self-imposed rule of not titling its shows, ‘51 @ 51’ references the number of artworks in the exhibition as well as the address of the museum, 51 East Pender Street.

New York: 1962-1964 explores a pivotal three-year period in the history of art and culture in New York City, examining how artists living and working in New York responded to their rapidly changing world, through more than 180 works of art—all made or seen in New York between 1962-1964.

‘SLAY’ features two paintings depicting different versions of the story of Judith and Holofernes, one by Italian Baroque artist Artemisia Gentileschi and the other by American contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley.
