Jonathan Baldock features in 'Acts of Gathering'
‘Acts of Gathering’ explores different cultures’ ceremonies and practices around food production, harvesting and sharing. Using performances, songs, storytelling and symbolic objects, the show encourages visitors to consider their own connections and relationships to the food that they consume.
Corn dolly workshops will accompany the artist Jonathan Baldock’s 'Corn Dolly' I, II, III & V (2012). This body of work is inspired by corn dollies; traditionally created from the last sheaf of corn cut at harvest. The corn’s spirit is believed to inhabit the dolly after the field has been harvested and historically the different shapes are associated with particular counties in the UK.
The Eden project’s Senior Arts Curator, Misha Curson, explains: “Acts of Gathering presents a number of thought-provoking artworks that reflect on the customs and practices surrounding food, it invites visitors to consider on how food cultures can strengthen our connections to each other and the land.”
This exhibition features artists including Jonathan Baldock, Serge Attukwei Clottey, Jumana Manna, Maria Nepomuceno, Uriel Orlow, Nina Royle and Lucy Stein.
