Kendell Geers features in Setouchi Triennale 2022
Setouchi Triennale takes place within the framework of Art Setouchi and is held on 12 islands and 2 ports in the Seto Inland Sea. Art Setouchi has forged lasting connections with local communities and generated unique initiatives which are contributing to restoration of the sea.
Kendell Geers’ large-scale outdoor commission, ‘FLOW’ is installed permanently on the island of Takamijima. Overlooking the sea, the front and sides of the wall are constructed using shou sugi ban, a Japanese wood burning technique, and panels of mirror that reflect the viewer and surrounding scenery. The wall’s distinctive design forms the letters F L O W in a typeface designed by Dutch artist Theo von Duisburg, with cut-out sections framing the neighbouring islands of the archipelago.
