Izumi Kato features in 'Assembly 1: Unstored'
Assembly was established in 2022 by Mexican artist Bosco Sodi and Lucia Corredor and is sponsored by the Non Profit Foundation for the Mexican Art and Culture. Restored by Mexican architect Alberto Kalach, the former car dealership is a forum for dialogue between international artists and the local community.
Curated by Dakin Hart with Alberto Rios de la Rosa, Assembly’s inaugural exhibition is devoted to cultural, social and economic exchange. 'Assembly 1: Unstored' features artworks 'rescued from the isolation of storage crates' and re-entered into the world, where they can 'play their role in the marketplace of ideas'.
Bosco Sodi's work is on view in the downstairs exhibition space, including large-scale sculptures, mixed media works and a series made on the commercial burlap sacks that are used to transport Mexican dried chiles. The selection of Sodi’s work is set against painted rocks by Izumi Kato and large pots by the celebrated ceramist Shiro Tsujimura.
