Yinka Shonibare CBE RA launches Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) Foundation
Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to announce the launch of Yinka Shonibare CBE RA's Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) Foundation cultural center in Nigeria. Set across sites in Lagos and Ijebu, G.A.S. is a non-profit dedicated to facilitating cultural exchange through tailored residencies, public programs, and exhibition opportunities primarily for creative practitioners from Africa and the diaspora.
The G.A.S. Foundation is an ambitious philanthropic project founded in 2019 by Yinka Shonibare CBE RA with an esteemed board of Directors. The Foundation brings together those working in the fields of contemporary art, design, architecture, agriculture, and ecology by giving space and resources to research, experiment, share, educate and develop work.
In addition to their state-of-the-art campus in Lagos, G.A.S. Foundation operates the Guest Artists Space Ecological Green Farm in Ikise, Ijebu. The Ecological Green Farm provides additional resident and studio space for visiting artists, and is also a working farm spread across 54 acres that promotes regenerative farming practices and aims to address food insecurity in the region.
