Rivane Neuenschwander features in 'Nobody would have believed it: Alvim Corrêa and 10 contemporary artists'

Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Brazil

São Paulo Pinacoteca, museum of the São Paulo State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy, presents 'Nobody would have believed it: Alvim Corrêa and 10 contemporary artists'. The group exhibition explores the genre of science fiction, presenting Corrêa's illustrations for Herbert George Wells' 'A Guerra dos Mundos' in dialogue with works of contemporary art. The resulting dialogue spans political and social history, colonialism and war, prejudice, fear and desire.

Curatorship is by Fernanda Pitta and Laurens Dhaenens, an offshoot of the Pinacoteca's partnership with Netwerk Aalst, from Belgium. The selection of 43 works by Alvim Corrêa, Alex Cerveny, Hair, Denilson Baniwa, Fernando Gutiérrez Huanchaco, Guerreiro do Divino Amor, Ilê Sartuzi, Luiz Roque, Rivane Neuenschwander, Runo Lagomarsino and Wendy Morris highlights the complex relationship between humanity, new technologies and nature.

The exhibition is accompanied by an 80-page illustrated catalogue, with text by Fernanda Pitta and Laurens Dhaenens, an essay by Dhaenens and texts by exhibiting artists Denilson Baniwa and Wendy Morris
