Virtual Member Lecture: The Obama Portraits
Sam Ramos associate director of Innovation and Creativity, hosts a zoom webinar exploring the acclaimed and historically important portraits of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama by Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald. These pivotal artist portraits made history, as the first African American's artists to be commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to create official portraits of the president and the first lady.
In association with Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C, a five-city tour explores the official Obama portraits, beginning with Chicago. As the family’s long-time home, Chicago has a unique connection to the Obamas, as does the Art Institute where these images reside.
