Leilah Babirye is included in the benefit exhibition 'When Sun Comes Out'
'When Sun Comes Out' is Blank Forms' first benefit exhibition, initiated in response to the challenges raised by the Covid-19 pandemic for the arts and the performing arts in particular. The exhibition features works by over 40 artists who are collaborators or friends of the non-profit organisation, including Ugandan artist Leilah Babirye. All sales are split with the artists and the proceeds that go to Blank Forms will help fund future performances, publications, and archival initiatives.
The show takes its title from the 1963 album by American jazz musician Sun Ra and features a rare silkscreened cover designed by Claude Dangerfield. Referring back to Blank Forms’ first gala in 2017, which honoured Marshall Allen and the Sun Ra Arkestra, the exhibition also looks to the future with hope for sunnier days of music, performance and art.
