David Shrigley: Do Not Touch the Worms
'Do not Touch the Worms' at Copenhagen Contemporary (CC), Denmark is David Shrigley's largest solo presentation to date. The exhibition centres on an installation created by the British artist specially for the gallery. Twenty pink plastic earth worms inflated to a colossal size transform the space into a comic snake pit. Whilst the installation appears chaotic, the worms regularly come to life and slowly expire in a rhythmic cycle of inflation and deflation. A huge LED clock overlooks the gallery space, counting down to the next invigorating puff of air. Whilst their absurd appearance offers childlike amusement, the clock and the worms' huge scale bring to mind human mortality in a striking example of the artist's dark and complex humour.
