Tonico Lemos Auad in 'Beyond the Avant-Garde', The 11th Brazilian Naïf Art Biennial
'Beyond the Avant-Garde' takes place in the ambit of the 11th Brazilian Naïf Art Biennial. Bringing together 10 contemporary artists from Latin-America whose pieces will be infiltrating the works selected by the Biennial jury, the exhibition intends to provoke the friction between these two distinct artistic categories, which are not usually shown together in the same context. At the same time, all the contemporary works selected for 'Beyond the Avant-Garde' employ some kind of technique, method, imagery, or reference from aesthetic paradigms other than those based in the European avant-garde tradition: Brazilian indigenous art, craft, embroidery, mural painting, among others.
Tonico Lemos Auad will be exhibiting work from his 'Sleep Walkers' series, alongside Felipe Arturo, Alexandre da Cunha, Federico Herrero, Pablo Lobato, Daniel Steegmann Mangranné, Montez Magno, Rodrigo Matheus, Tiago Rocha Pitta and Carla Zaccagnini.
