Melvin Edwards is included in 'Kalunga' Transmission, Glasgow, Scotland
In collaboration with Ana Beatriz Almeida, Transmission co-curates an international group exhibition that centres on Cameroonian philosopher Achille Mbembe’s analysis of necropolitics – the ways in which death and violence may be used to exert power over the living.
Transmission seeks to function as a refuge space for local community groups as well as a site of exchange and learning with those across the Atlantic. By engaging with artists who work with non-western knowledge systems, Transmission aims to reveal and expand the possibilities of the space. Kalunga is a presentation of artworks produced by non-hegemonic identities, located methodologically between anthropology and art criticism.
Artists included are Péju Alatise, Ana Beatriz Almeida, Ag Anara, Shai Andrade, Melvin Edwards and Mmakgabo Helen Sebidi.
This exhibition is supported by Glasgow International.
