Holly Hendry presents 'Wrot'
Holly Hendry presents ‘Wrot’ at BALTIC at Gateshead, England, her first solo exhibition in a UK arts institution.
In this display of new work, Hendry explores surfaces as borders between above and below. Using a variety of layered materials, from Jesmonite and plaster to foam, wood, steel and water-jet cut marble, she cuts cross-sections to reveal the insides as edges. Socks and cartoon style bones appear within the layers as if they are archaeological fragments being unearthed. Her use of pastel colours, soft lines and playful content contrasts with the hardness of the materials and Hendry’s investigation into the body and abject themes of innards and decay.
