Holly Hendry, 'GUM SOULS'
‘GUM SOULS’ is a solo exhibition by Holly Hendry presented at Frutta, Rome, Italy. The exhibition features a series of wall and floor-based sculptures that resemble sliced or lobotomised anatomies.
Hendry combines cast sections of pigmented plaster, marble and cement with unusual and humorous objects that fit together like a puzzle. ‘GUM SOULS’ takes shapes from domestic instruction manuals and cartoon bodies, utilising techniques of the caricature through exaggerated lines and proportions. Parallels are drawn with medical diagrams known as ‘cortical homunculus’, visual representations of the human body where proportion is linked to sensory function.
