For this group exhibition, guest curator of the DRAF Curators' Series, Victor Wang 王宗孚, brings together works from 1960s and 70s Japan and Korea. Featured artists include Hirata Minoru 平田実 and Kim Ku Lim 김구림, as well as sculpture and works on paper by the late Jiro Takamatsu. Takamatsu's vital role in the revolutionary collective ‘Hi Red Center' is also highlighted through visual and textual materials that document the group's performance-based activities.
This exhibition is part of Victor Wang's project for the 11th edition of the Curator's Series. Comprised of exhibition case studies, classes and a course reader, the project, titled ‘Institute of Asian Performance Art (IAPA)', aims to deepen the awareness and understanding of early performance art in Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan. A comprehensive reconsideration of the format of this usually exhibition-based Series, Wang's project presents a new and vibrant platform for East Asian performance art.
