Yinka Shonibare MBE features in ‘Powerful Tides’

The Dockyard, Chatham, UK
'Powerful Tides: 400 Years of Chatham and the Sea' looks at artists, both historical and contemporary, inspired by The Dockyard and the ships that were built there. The exhibition also links The Dockyard back to the waterways and the sea to which it was once intrinsically connected. The exhibition will include Yinka Shonibare's 2009 work 'Nelson's Ship in Bottle' which refers both to British colonialism and its expansion in trade and Empire made possible through the freedom of the seas and new trade routes.
