Yinka Shonibare CBE: BBC
BBC shares a short film of Yinka Shonibare CBE RA as part of their Arts in Motion documentary series.
Shonibare speaks briefly on themes of identity, colonialism, and cultural exchange in his work, referring to his 2010 Fourth Plinth commission, recent exhibition at Serpentine and Guest Artists Space Foundation, Lagos.
The artist doesn't believe in tearing down statues, Shonibare believes in adding new voices to the conversation. Instead of erasing history, his art challenges it, reinterpreting public monuments to spark debate and deeper understanding.
Arts in Motion is a new collaboration with the BBC – in partnership with Rolex’s Perpetual Arts Initiative - bringing the best arts and culture to audiences worldwide.
