Jonathan Baldock features in 'More than Human'

The Design Museum, London, UK

More than Human is a group exhibition bringing together art, science and radical thinking. This is the first major exhibition on a growing movement of 'more-than-human' design, presenting a new generation of international designers whose practices embrace the idea that human activities can only flourish alongside other species and systems.

Jonathan Baldock features five life size bronze masks inspired by pagan corn dollies, traditionally made from the last sheaf of corn cut at Harvest. Historically, counties in the UK were associated with different shapes of corn dolly, but Baldock's works are a reimagined blend of various designs. He recreates the corn dollies as masks, a recurring motif throughout his practice, invoking the theatrical and psychological potency of hiding one’s identity.

Bringing together over 140 works spanning contemporary and traditional practices, fine art, product design, architecture and interactive installations, the exhibition explores how humans can relearn to design with and for the natural world in the face of climate emergency.

Other exhibiting artists include Shimabuku, Julia Lohmann, MOTH (More Than Human Life Project), Alexandra Diasy Ginsberg, Paulo Tavares and Feifei Zhou.

The show is created in collaboration with Future Observatory, the Design Museum’s national research programme for the green transition.
