Izumi Kato features in ‘Zipangu’
Zipangu - Contemporary Artists Who Ran Through the Heisei Era invites viewers to explore the rich tapestry of Japanese contemporary art that flourished during the Heisei era, often referred to as the "Lost 30 Years." This exhibition presents a restructured and expanded version of the original Zipangu exhibition held in Japan from 2011-2012, which aimed to rediscover the allure of contemporary art in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
This developed Zipangu exhibition brings together works from leading artists who have shaped the art world from the Heisei era into the Reiwa era. These artists have developed unique expressions by blending and transforming Japanese culture within the broader context of global contemporary art. Their works reflect the complexity and diversity of their times. Viewers are invited to reflect on the Heisei era and enjoy the contemporary art that continues to evolve today.
Exhibited artists include Izumi Kato, Makoto Aida, Satoru Aoyama, Manabu Ikeda, Tetsuya Ishida, Takahiro Iwasaki, Masahiro Usami, Ayane Eguchi, Jun O, Eri Okamoto, Yuna Ogino, Tomiyuki Kaneko, Yayoi Kusama, Miwa Komatsu, Akino Kondoh, and Takashi Murakami.
