Yinka Shonibare CBE RA features in ‘Earthbound’
Set within the context of global climate anxiety and planetary health concerns, Earthbound showcases existing and newly commissioned works by nine artists and community makers. This major exhibition highlights our connection with the earth and explores our potential to foster a healthier, more harmonious relationship with the natural world. Arguing that natural and human histories have become disconnected, the show encourages reflection on our innate interconnection with nature.
Through sculpture, drawing, painting, installation and natural art-making techniques, the artists address earthbound themes that connect us with soil, plants, seeds, mycelium, animals and birds, and the histories, cultures and knowledge surrounding them.
Together, these works embody notions of care, community, and courage, offering a sense of hope and a vision for a future where, through collective engagement with our planet, we can drive positive environmental change.
Exhibiting artists include Yinka Shonibare CBE, Jodie Carey, Tania Kovats, Otobong Nkanga, Sally Payen, Charmaine Watkiss, and Laura White. Together with Grace Emily Manning and Mud Club, the public have also contriubted works.
Join co-curator Zoë Lippett and artist Sally Payen for a tour of the exhibition on Saturday, 22 March 2025, from 11 am to 12 pm, coinciding with WWF's annual Earth Hour campaign. Focusing on themes of soil, seeds, flowers, and plants, the tour will move through the Floor 3 galleries. Stools are available upon request.
