Yinka Shonibare CBE RA features in 'The True Size of Africa'
The True Size of Africa brings together major contemporary artworks with sound and spatial installations realised especially for the show by artists from Africa and its global diaspora. The exhibition take place 140 years since the Berlin Conference in November 1884, when colonial powers divided and then claimed territories in Africa. It considers the historical characterisation of Africa, exemplified in the missrepresentation of its geographical scale on Western maps, exploring steroetypes, biases and prejudices, while opening space for new perspectives. It platforms the work of African and diasporic artists working today.
Yinka Shonibare CBE RA is exhibited alongside artists including William Kentridge, Zanele Muholi, The Singh Twins and Kara Walker, among others.
