Rivane Neuenschwander features in 'Le monde à plat'
'Le monde à plat' is a group exhibition at Boghossian Foundation, Brussels that investigates the multitude of ways that art represents the world. The exhibition explores themes including cartography, travel and social and ecological change and spans a wide variety of media including drawing, photography, video and installation.
Amongst the works included in the exhibition is Rivane Neuenschwander's digital video work 'Contingent'. The work presents a map of the world rendered in honey, which is slowly consumed by a swarm of ants. The honey continents gradually erode; landmasses become fragmented islands. The title 'Contingent' suggests a situation mutual dependence and points to issues of over-consumption of finite resources.
