Rivane Neuenschwander features in Gangwon International Triennale 2024
Gangwon International Triennale: Ecological Art from Beneath is the first Nomadic Triennale in South Korea, seeking to support local and regional contemporary artists to realise their projects and forge interaction.
The Gangwon Triennale showcases artworks that were created within Gangwon Province, and which utilise the culture, history, and landscape of the eighteen cities and counties in Gangwon Province.
This year's theme, Ecological Art from Beneath, is inspired by the symbolic meaning of ant tunnels, known for their alternative, microscopic perspective, and the organic social structure of anti-communities. The Triennale seeks to explore ecological art from the perspective of shifting attitudes, entailing the redefinition of the relationships between humans and nature, humans and humans, and the local and the global.
Rivane Neuenschwander's film 'Quarta-Feira de Cinzas / Epilogue’, depicting a ground-level, close-up view of red and black ants carrying coloured confetti across the floor of the Brazilian rainforest, will be featured. The work is a single channel video lasting 5 minutes and 48 seconds and shown on a loop.
Exhibiting artists include Rivane Neuenschwander, Ana Mendieta, Dennis Oppenheim, Bosco Sodi, Regina José Galindo, Tomas Saraceno, Joanna Rajkowska, Yee Sookyung, Parastou Forouhar, Mary Mattingly, Li Binyuan, George Osodi, Ken & Julia Yonetani, Ryu Biho, Bui Cong Khanh and more.
