Jonathan Baldock designs the windows of Hermès
Jonathan Baldock's installation, Take a Peek, transforms the windows of Hermès' London New Bond Street store.
Taking inspiration from the iconic Tuileries Garden in Paris and the secret rooftop garden found atop Hermès’ historic store at 24 rue de Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Baldock transforms the windows of Hermès' London flagship into a series of fantastical hedge-lined corridors.
Spanning the five windows that wrap around the store, each pane offers new perspectives. Peepholes, a recurring motif in Baldock’s work, can be found in the trees and shrubs, acting as portals into a world of imagination. The windows become interactive, turning into a game of hide and seek, as viewers are encouraged to look between the branches to find a whimsical cast of characters.
The colourful display has been created with a tapestry of hundreds of individual leaves reflecting the shifting shades of autumn, seen on the terrace of Faubourg and the streets of Paris. Made entirely of leather, these leaves have been carefully crafted from unused materials sourced from the sustainable development department.
Baldock’s sculptural window display blurs the lines between public and private, outside, and inside, real and imaginary.
