Yinka Shonibare CBE RA in Kunstmuseum Den Haag's permanent collection

Kunstmuseum Den Haag, The Hague, Netherlands

Yinka Shonibare CBE RA's work Revolution Kid (Calf) is displayed in Kunstmuseum Den Haag's permanent collection.

Revolution Kid (Calf) is part of a series of childlike figures made by Shonibarein 2011 and 2012 in response to the proliferation of revolutions and uprisings across the globe. Shonibare’s figure adopts a similar pose to the child in Eugène Delacroix's painting, ‘Liberty Leading the People’, commemorating the July Revolution of 1830 which toppled King Charles X of France. The figure also brandishes a golden gun, like the Browning Hi Power pistol found on the body Muammar Gaddafi when he was captured and killed in Libya in 2011.
