Caroline Walker in Drawing Biennial 2024

Drawing Room, London, UK

Caroline Walker’s ’Life Bug Study’ is featured in the Drawing Biennial 2024.

The Biennial features around 300 unique works on paper by artists worldwide, reflecting on the conditions of our time; the form and the subject of the drawings operate as barometers of the complex issues we face today.

The artist explains: “‘Little Bugs Study’ is a preparatory drawing in a series I’m currently working on depicting women working in nurseries and early years childcare. The particular scene in the drawing is of a nursery worker comforting one of the children on an afternoon in late autumn at the outdoor nursery my daughter attends. The subject of my paintings is almost always women and in recent years has focused on women’s working lives, often in the female dominated roles of cleaning, catering and care. Through making this often overlooked and undervalued work the subject of paintings I hope to draw attention to it’s importance and consider the value we place on different forms of labour.”

There will be an online fundraising auction in aid of Drawing Room on 19 June – 3 July.
